Nadella stated that the leading tech companies competing in AI must ensure they advance the technology in a way that is acceptable to the public.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Nadella noted that the small group of companies at the forefront of the AI race, which are calling for substantial resources to expand, may not present a compelling argument to the public. This concern is compounded by worries about AI safety and its impact on the workforce. He commented that it is not acceptable to simply state that all white-collar jobs will disappear, that AI could be a weapon, and that all power will be used to build data centers. Nadella also expressed doubt that the public will tolerate only a few AI models and companies performing all the learning for the world.<\/p>\n<p>Nadella further argued that corporate leaders who view AI solely as a tool to eliminate jobs and reduce costs are misunderstanding the technology. He suggested that leaders should instead focus on reorganizing jobs to better utilize workers&#8217; abilities. According to Nadella, companies need both human capital and in-house AI capabilities, which he referred to as token capital. This combination can serve as a recipe for how firms across the economy can harness both AI and workers, though he acknowledged that it involves significant change management and displacement, but that a path exists.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the combination of human-derived knowledge and AI can create a continuous learning system, and that a company&#8217;s character will be defined by the tacit knowledge it contains from both sources. Nadella emphasized that companies must take concrete steps to persuade the public and workforce about the economic opportunities ahead, as narratives alone will not be sufficient.
