Park Tae-seo, head of the research and development (R&D) center at Human Consulting Group (HCG), met with Seoul Economic Daily at the company’s headquarters in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on Tuesday to explain the artificial intelligence (AI) services the company provides. Founded in 2001 as a human resources and organizational consulting service, HCG supports corporate HR operations through consulting, solutions, and payroll outsourcing.<\/p>\n
This year, HCG declared its corporate identity as an “AI HR-tech company” and adopted “AI Powered HR” as its slogan. In April, it established an R&D hub at its headquarters, bringing scattered R&D capabilities together in one place.<\/p>\n
HCG’s AI technology is concentrated in “elizax.” Elizax is not a separate product but a brand that collectively refers to the functions to which HCG’s AI technology is applied. It includes four functions, such as an “AI Goal Recommendation” feature that analyzes performance data to recommend goals to users, and an “AI Sentiment Analysis” feature that classifies comments in HR evaluations as positive, negative, or neutral. The company is also developing an “AI HR Service Assistant” function that answers inquiries related to HR tasks such as leave and payroll according to the user’s context.<\/p>\n
“Elizax is an AI layer applied to all of HCG’s solutions and services,” Park said. “It understands HR language and context and is implemented in various forms, including dashboards, chatbots, and decision support.” HCG operates HR management solutions including Hunel, Jade, and Talenx. Its goal this year is to apply elizax to all of its solutions.<\/p>\n
HCG’s strength lies in offering services that span the entire spectrum, from consulting to solutions and payroll outsourcing. Unlike companies that handle only one area, it holds data and knowledge across all three. It can also train its AI on the full context of the data. “Even abroad, it is rare to find companies that handle all three areas together,” Park said. “This kind of full-context knowledge and data is our biggest differentiator.”<\/p>\n
HCG currently has 958 client companies. Last year, it recorded revenue of 35.3 billion won and operating profit of 1.9 billion won. It invests more than 30% of its revenue in R&D each year to discover future growth engines.<\/p>\n
The mid-to-long-term vision of the R&D center is “an AI agent assigned to each individual.” Currently, the company is developing and applying AI functions for HR managers, but in the future, it plans to assign an AI agent to each individual employee. As an assistant that has learned the individual user’s context, it would allow each person to handle HR tasks such as leave and payroll through their own AI agent, without going through an HR manager.<\/p>\n
“For example, when you want to schedule something with a coworker, instead of calling them directly, you give a command to your AI agent in natural language,” Park said. “My AI agent and the other person’s AI agent figure out the schedules, set the appointment, and the user only has to approve it.”<\/p>\n
