The next frontier of artificial intelligence<\/a> will be agents that can perform \u201ceconomically valuable\u201d work across a broad range of real-world domains, according to Dawn Song, Meta Platforms\u2019 new vice-president of AI research.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe goal is not to replace humans,\u201d Song told the South China Morning Post last week on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Dalian, also known as Summer Davos, days before joining Meta.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we want these AI agents to be more effective in these important real-world domains and help humans do this work better and provide more economic value,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Song, a professor in computer science at the University of California, Berkeley and a co-director of its Centre for Responsible, Decentralised Intelligence (RDI), is a renowned Chinese-American scientist in AI security and also co-founder of enterprise AI safety start-up Virtue AI.<\/p>\n

Song said on X on Friday that she, along with \u201cmany members of the Virtue AI team\u201d, was joining Meta\u2019s Superintelligence Labs as vice-president of AI research to help shape Meta\u2019s AI safety and security efforts.<\/p>\n
