ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) \u2014 The state auditor released a new report on teachers using AI in the classroom. <\/p>\n
According to the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts, nearly 60% of the more than 13,000 teachers surveyed said they use AI to help improve instructional materials and creating certain content for students. <\/p>\n
Per the findings, the teachers who use it said it saves time and improves learning materials. <\/p>\n
\u201cAI is here to stay and we\u2019re going to have to use it effectively but efficiently,\u201d Verdaillia Turner, Georgia Federation of Teachers president, said. \u201cWe\u2019re going to have to put some safeguards up, some laws around it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The research in the report also varied depending on age group. <\/p>\n
Turner said she welcomes the use of AI if it\u2019s done right. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe have to make sure children can think, teachers can think and that individualized instruction is paramount for each child,\u201d she said. \u201cSo it\u2019s only a tool and we\u2019re going to need some regulations around how we use AI.\u201d<\/p>\n
Per the findings, a lot of teachers also expressed concerns about things like academic integrity. <\/p>\n
Collette Campbell is a teacher. While she does not teach in Georgia, she told Atlanta News First this conversation happens everywhere. <\/p>\n
The use of AI is something Campbell does not agree with. <\/p>\n
\u201cI think there\u2019s a lot we\u2019ve done as teachers to develop curriculum, to develop lesson plans and we haven\u2019t relied on AI for the entire practice of teaching,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
