June 30 (Reuters) – Google-backed Apptronik unveiled a new robot training facility on Tuesday, betting \u200cthat large-scale real-world data collection will accelerate the \u200ccommercialization of humanoid robots. <\/p>\n
The Austin-based startup said the facility, developed with \u200bGoogle DeepMind, is designed to move robots from pilot projects to production deployments. <\/p>\n
\u2022 The nearly 90,000-square-foot facility, Robot Park, in Austin houses fleets of humanoid robots performing logistics, \u200cmanufacturing and retail \u2060tasks to generate training data for AI models. <\/p>\n
\u2022 The company also introduced Apollo 2, its \u2060latest humanoid robot, available in both bipedal and wheeled configurations, which has operated for more than a year \u200bas the \u200bcompany’s data collection platform. <\/p>\n
\u2022 \u200bRobot Park supplies data \u200cto Gemini Robotics, Google’s robotics AI model, under Apptronik’s research partnership with Google DeepMind. <\/p>\n
\u2022 “We have a factory that produces robots, we also have a factory that produces data,” CEO Jeff Cardenas said, describing Robot Park as the \u200cengine for building production-grade AI \u200bmodels. <\/p>\n
\u2022 Cardenas said Apptronik has \u200bbuilt “hundreds” of Apollo 2 \u200brobots but declined to disclose deployment numbers. <\/p>\n
\u2022 “We’ll \u200ccontinue to pilot through this \u200byear, and \u200bthen we’ll start to see real production versions … in 2027 and beyond,” Cardenas said. <\/p>\n
\u2022 Apptronik raised $520 million \u200bin a funding \u200cround announced in February that valued the company \u200bat about $5 billion. <\/p>\n
