The U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) is allegedly using Anthropic’s restricted artificial intelligence model, Claude Mythos Preview, for cyber defense despite<\/a> the Pentagon blacklisting the company by designating it a supply chain risk.<\/p>\n

The AI model has also reportedly been used more broadly across the Defense Department, Axios reported.<\/a><\/p>\n

Mythos was announced earlier this month. It is part of Anthropic\u2019s \u201cProject Glasswing,\u201d which allows select organizations to access the unreleased Claude Mythos Preview model.<\/p>\n

Anthropic has described Mythos as its \u201cmost capable yet for coding and agentic tasks,\u201d a reference to software that can take actions with less direct human prompting.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite the lawsuit, the government is reportedly considering granting<\/a> federal agencies access to Anthropic\u2019s advanced AI model \u201cMythos.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an email, Gregory Barbaccia, CIO at the White House Office of Management and Budget, said that the department is preparing safeguards to give agencies access to Mythos.<\/p>\n

This will reportedly be a modified version of the advanced AI model. The email did not specify a timeline for the rollout.<\/p>\n

Anthropic’s CEO Dario Amodei visited the White House on Friday to meet with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in an effort to resolve<\/a> the\u00a0company’s ongoing lawsuit with the Pentagon.<\/p>\n

The White House described the meeting with Amodei as \u201cproductive\u201d and \u201cconstructive,\u201d CNBC reported<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The administration said the talks focused on balancing innovation with \u201csafety\u201d and managing risks tied to scaling powerful models.<\/p>\n

Anthropic echoed the tone, calling the discussion \u201cproductive,\u201d in a statement to the publication.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite the high-level engagement, Trump appeared out of the loop. When asked about Amodei\u2019s visit on a runway in Arizona, he responded \u201cWho?\u201d and later added he had \u201cno idea.\u201d<\/p>\n

The meeting marks a shift from the recent tensions, when the administration labeled Anthropic a national security risk and ordered<\/a> agencies to stop using its technology.<\/p>\n

The company responded with lawsuits<\/a> challenging the move, and those cases are ongoing.<\/p>\n
