Less than two weeks after Amazon declined to release Luca Guadagnino\u2019s drama, Artificial, it\u2019s found a home at Neon. It was previously reported that another indie film company, Mubi, was also in the mix at one point, while Netflix, A24 and Warner Bros Clockwork had turned it down.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s now thought that Guadagnino\u2019s film, about OpenAI founder Sam Altman, will make its debut at the Venice Film Festival; <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/global\/neon-luca-guadagnino-artificial-openai-movie-amazon-1236787919\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Variety <\/a>also reports that Neon is planning some sort of Oscar campaign. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Andrew Garfield is in the lead as Altman, with the drama covering a period in late 2023 when the founder was abruptly fired by his board of directors. Following a mutinous response from both employees and investors, Altman was hired again days later. ChatGPT\u2019s march to AI dominance carried on apace, allowing kids everywhere to cheat on their homework.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amazon MGM had originally bankrolled Artificial to the tune of around $40m. It was during post-production that someone at the company decided that the film might be \u201cbetter served\u201d if it were released elsewhere. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">Read more:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/filmstories.co.uk\/news\/amazon-mgms-dumping-of-artificial-highlights-the-problem-with-a-shrinking-hollywood\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amazon MGM\u2019s dumping of Artificial highlights the problem with a shrinking Hollywood<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By-the-by, Amazon and OpenAI have some close business links with major sums of money attached, such as a $50bn investment that Amazon made in OpenAI over the past few months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There had been some earlier reports that Artificial hadn\u2019t tested well in early screenings; Variety says the opposite, and that people who\u2019ve had an early look at the film liked it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The millionaires and billionaires the film depicts may be less enamoured with it. Written by Simon Rich, the script is said to depict Altman in a less than flattering light, while Elon Musk, played by Ike Barinholtz is also \u201chighly dislikeable\u201d per Variety. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Supporting players include Monica Barbaro, Jason Schwartzman, Zosia Mamet, Cooper Hoffman, Chris O\u2019Dowd and Billie Lourd. That\u2019s a pretty cool cast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the sounds of things, Artificial will be getting its first screenings within a matter of weeks; the Venice Film Festival takes place from the 2nd to the 12th September. We\u2019ve no idea whether it\u2019ll end up becoming as acclaimed as The Social Network, another film about a weird, capricious tech bro that featured Andrew Garfield.
