The acquisition underscores Neon\u2019s commitment to partnering with visionary filmmakers, and bringing ambitious cinema to audiences around the world. Artificial will compete in this year\u2019s Oscar race.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tPic is produced by Rich and Guadagnino, alongside Heyday Films\u2019 David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford, and Jennifer Fox.\u00a0 Shot in San Francisco and Italy, the film was edited by longtime Guadagnino collaborator Marco Costa, with cinematography by Malik Hassan Sayeed, production design by Stefano Baisi, costumes by JW, and an original score and original songs by Damon Albarn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe deal was negotiated by Alison Cohen for NEON, with CAA Media Finance and Amazon MGM Studios.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tNeon has made it known that Artificial is joining its awards slate for this year, so get ready to watch this one at a festival near you. Typically, Guadagnino world premieres his wares at Venice where he previously won the Silver Lion for 2022\u2019s Bones and All. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tNeon also has Cristian Mungiu\u2019s Palme d\u2019Or winner, Fjord, James Gray\u2019s Paper Tiger, Ryusuke Hamaguchi\u2019s Cannes prize winner, All of a Sudden, Hirokazu Koreeda\u2019s Sheep in the Box, Director Na\u2019s Hope, Arie and Chuko\u2019s Clarissa,and William and David Greaves\u2019s Once Upon a Time in Harlem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tPREVIOUSLY, 11:43AM: Following Amazon MGM\u2019s announcement that they wouldn\u2019t be releasing Artificial, Luca Guadagnino\u2019s new movie on OpenAI\u2019s Sam Altman, we understand that Neon is in talks to pick it up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThis is after it seemed the film was heading to Mubi. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tOne source told us that the movie in its subject matter was a hot potato with some studios even passing on screening the film. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tA deal figure wasn\u2019t disclosed. <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/06\/luca-guadagnino-artificial-amazon-jeff-bezos-1236962694\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amazon MGM made its announcement on Artificial <\/a>two weeks ago, issuing the following statement: \u201cWe have the utmost respect and admiration for Luca Guadagnino as an award-winning filmmaker \u2013 not to mention a longstanding relationship that we hope to continue. We believe that\u00a0Artificial\u00a0will be better served if it were released by a different studio and are working closely with the filmmaking team to find the film a new home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWhile Amazon didn\u2019t get into further detail as to the motivations behind its move with Artificial, it\u2019s been widely noted that Amazon announced a $50 billion investment in OpenAI earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWe heard that the film was tested by Amazon MGM Studios, and the audience reaction was good. The studio remains in business with Guadagnino despite unloading Artificial; the Oscar-nominated filmmaker having had four projects there including Suspiria, Bones and All (during the pre MGM acquisition days), Challengers and After the Hunt. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tDirected by Guadagnino from a script by Simon Rich,\u00a0Artificial\u00a0explores the turbulent period in 2023 when Altman was fired and rehired as OpenAI\u2019s in a matter of days. Andrew Garfield stars as Altman, leading a cast that also includes Mark Rylance, Andrew Garfield, Yura Borisov, Monica Barbaro, Billie Lourd, Jason Schwartzman, Cooper Koch, Cooper Hoffman and Ike Barinholtz. The project came together following Guadagnino\u2019s work with Amazon on the films\u00a0Challengers\u00a0and\u00a0After the Hunt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tReps for Neon declined to comment.
