Amid rising costs of artificial intelligence, companies are looking for ways to cut expenses. The latest example is Microsoft, which, according to reports, has begun reducing the use of third-party models from OpenAI and Anthropic in favor of its own MAI models.<\/p>\n
Specifically, for Excel and Word Microsoft began answering a portion of user queries using its own MAI models. It was previously reported that a significant portion of Office 365 is powered by models from OpenAI and Anthropic.<\/p>\n
Although the company continues to use external models, Microsoft is also more actively developing its own AI agents. Last month at the Build conference, the company unveiled seven new MAI models, including an agent coder and an image generator.<\/p>\n
TechCrunch reached out for a comment, and Microsoft said it would not provide further comment.<\/p>\n

Such moves reflect the general industry trend: after a period of active use of external AI solutions, companies are increasingly focusing on their own developments and cost rationalization.<\/p>\n
