ADWEEK’s investigation has revealed that StackAdapt<\/a> , a programmatic advertising platform using AI and machine learning, is soliciting advertisers to advertise within ChatGPT. ADWEEK obtained a presentation document titled ‘OpenAI x StackAdapt Exclusive Pilot Program,’ which was shared with select buyers on March 27, 2026. From this document, it can be seen that OpenAI positions ChatGPT advertising as being in the early testing phase.<\/p>\n

According to this document, StackAdapt sells ads within ChatGPT at a cost per thousand impressions<\/a> ( CPM<\/a> ) of $15 to $60 (approximately 2,380 to 9,540 yen), in addition to platform usage fees and management fees. Furthermore, the minimum spend for ads within ChatGPT is $50,000 (approximately 7.9 million yen).<\/p>\n

OpenAI had stated that the minimum contract amount for advertising within ChatGPT was $200,000 (approximately 32 million yen), but it has since become clear that there were also lower offers.<\/p>\n

The presentation materials also state, ‘StackAdapt has partnered with OpenAl to enable advertising within ChatGPT, one of the world’s fastest-growing consumer platforms.’<\/p>\n

On the social forum Hacker News<\/a> , there were comments welcoming the ads, such as, ‘I have accessed ChatGPT many times with a specific purchase intention, like ‘I want something like X and Y, but I also want Z,’ but sometimes it displays hallucinatory products that don’t exist, or it displays actual products but the purchase links don’t lead anywhere, and I end up searching for the products on Google and buying them that way. I think ChatGPT has wasted me at least $100. If they had just shown me a link to Amazon or something, I would have definitely clicked the purchase button,’ as well as comments<\/a> like, ‘What’s surprising is that OpenAI is partnering with third parties for advertising. It’s less secure, less profitable (due to high intermediary fees<\/a> ), difficult to access, and likely to malfunction.
