Expect scrutiny from rivals and developers.

SpaceXAI unveiled Grok 4.5 – the first release since the company went public a few weeks ago.

In SpaceXAI’s blog, the new model is described as a powerful AI work platform capable of performing a wide range of industry tasks: from coding and application development to office and clerical work, research, text creation, and other forms of data processing.

They also note that Grok can handle this work at lower costs: the company claims the model is twice as token-efficient compared to other leading models.

If the promises prove practical, this would be a significant advantage amid rising token costs.

The company released benchmarks that allegedly show Grok’s competitiveness with other top models on the market, though they are not yet considered class-leading.

Elon Musk’s stance and a comparison with Opus

On his online platform X, Elon Musk compared Grok 4.5 with Opus – the LLM from Anthropic, designed for intensive and complex tasks.

According to strong positive feedback from customers in our beta version, Grok 4.5 will be publicly available tomorrow. This is an Opus-class model, but faster, with more efficient token usage and lower costs.

– Elon Musk

Our internal assessment indicates that Grok 4.5 is roughly on par with Opus 4.7 in capabilities, but considerably faster. The combination of capabilities, greater speed, and lower cost makes it competitive.

– Elon Musk

According to SpaceXAI, Grok 4.5 costs $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens.

Opus 4.7 is priced at $5 per million input and $25 per million output tokens. OpenAI has different pricing tiers: Sol – $5 per million inputs and $30 per million outputs, Luna – $1 per million inputs and $6 per million outputs.

This week OpenAI plans to release GPT‑5.6 – the most powerful model, according to the company. The release had previously been restricted by the Trump administration due to safety concerns.

This busy week of releases underscores the competitiveness among leading industry players and the growth of price competition in the token market.

SpaceXAI promises big efficiency gains with Grok 4.5, yet real-world benchmarks and user tests remain pending.
