Mit 97 Jahren und fast blind: Ángel Baldovino malt weiter und zeigt seine erste Ausstellung seit fast zwei Jahrzehnten

Der argentinische Maler Ángel Baldovino wird bald 97 Jahre alt. In Buenos Aires geboren und seit Jahrzehnten auf Mallorca zu Hause, ist er abstrakter Künstler, leidenschaftlicher Erzähler, Kenner klassischer Autoren und Bewunderer von Leonardo da Vinci. Im Es Garatge der Cansalas Gallery in Palma wird am Mittwoch von 18 bis 20 Uhr seine erste Ausstellung seit fast 20 Jahren eröffnet. Unter dem Titel „La luz viene de arriba“ (Das Licht kommt von oben) sind 23 neue Werke zu sehen.

Von den Beschwerden des Alters will Baldovino wenig wissen. Die Malerei helfe ihm, sie zu vergessen. „Malen gibt mir alles. Es gibt mir Gesundheit und geistige Klarheit“, sagt er. Seine Bilder sind meist in kräftigen Farben gehalten und von der Natur inspiriert: von Vögeln, Bäumen, Landschaften und dem Meer.

Sehkraft nur auf einem Auge

In seinem Haus in Alaró beginnt Baldovino oft schon im Morgengrauen zu arbeiten. Dass er nur noch auf einem Auge sieht, hindert ihn weder am Lesen noch am Malen. Beim Malen helfe ihm die Einschränkung sogar, sich noch stärker zu konzentrieren.

Nach Mallorca kam der Argentinier 1977 auf Einladung des Malers Cándido Ballester. Nun hat dessen Tochter María Isabel Ballester die Ausstellung in der Galerie von Ann Wikström Mogliani ermöglicht.

Kompliziertes Leben prägt seine Kunst

Baldovinos Vater starb, als er erst ein Jahr alt war. Einen Teil seiner Kindheit verbrachte er gemeinsam mit seinen Geschwistern in einem Waisenhaus. Als Erwachsener erkrankte er schwer, lag 24 Stunden im Koma. Diese Erfahrung habe seinen Blick auf das Leben nachhaltig verändert, erzählt der Künstler. Solche Erlebnisse prägten auch seine Malerei, die sich im Laufe der Jahre vom Figurativen hin zu einer abstrakteren Kunst entwickelte.

Auf die neue Ausstellung freue sich Baldovino sehr. Heute male er mutiger als früher. Ans Aufhören denkt er nicht, am liebsten würde er wie seine Großmutter 101 Jahre alt werden. Wenn es aber eines Tages so weit sei, werde er zufrieden gehen, sagt er. Zufrieden mit dem, was er hinterlassen habe.
