Die HU-16 wurde Ende der 1940er Jahre als Nachfolger der Grumman Goose, Widgeon und Mallard entwickelt. Von 1947 bis 1959 wurden insgesamt 464 Exemplare produziert. Die wichtigsten Nutzer der HU-16 waren die United States Air Force, US Navy sowie die US Coast Guard. Als Antrieb dienten\u00a0zwei Neunzylinder Wright R-1820-76 mit jeweils 1425\u00a0PS.<\/p>\n<p>Die gestern in Wien zu bestaunende Maschine wurde etwa 1951 gebaut, ging durch mehrere H\u00e4nde und war auch l\u00e4nger abgestellt, ehe sie 2007 umfassend restauriert wurde.Das Flugzeug mit der Kennung N98TP ist eine von nur noch wenigen weltweit flugf\u00e4higen Albatross und wird von der Meyers Manx Airways Airways (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/meyersmanxairways\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\">Instagram-Account mit vielen Fotos<\/a> des Flugzeuges) betrieben &#8211; immer wieder ist es auch in Europa zu Gast, wie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.classicdriver.com\/de\/article\/flugzeuge\/meyers-manx-nahm-den-langen-weg-den-comer-see-amphibienflugzeug-aus-la\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\">dieser Beitrag mit spektakul\u00e4ren Fotos aus dem Jahr 2023<\/a> zeigt.<\/p>\n<p>Die N98TP landete gegen 10 Uhr in Wien und verlie\u00df die
