The owner of a renowned Prospect restaurant is charged with sexually assaulting and raping a woman, it can be revealed.
Owner of Rosemont Hall – home of Sunnys Shop and Mr Chan – 43-year-old Aaron One Ratanatray, faced Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday to enter pleas to three counts of sexual assault.
Magistrate Lynette Duncan asked how he pleaded to two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, commonly known as rape, and one count of indecent assault.
“Not guilty, Your Honour,” Mr Ratanatray responded from inside the dock.
Court documents released to The Advertiser allege Mr Ratanatray, of Fitzroy, engaged in sexual assault without consent with a woman in the inner-northern suburbs of Adelaide in 2025.
The documents further allege Mr Ratanatray indecently assaulted the same woman on the same day.
Prosecutors allege Mr Ratanatray’s offending was committed while he was “knowing or being recklessly indifferent to the fact that (the victim) was not so consenting”.
Mr Ratanatray’s restaurants on Prospect Rd include Sunny’s Shop Asian Street Food and Mr Chan.
On September 16 2021, a fire tore through the heritage-listed building in the early hours of the morning forcing its closure for more than two years.
Mr Ratanatray last made headlines when he was greeted by National Socialist Network graffiti on his external Peter Drew AUSSIE poster when opening his restaurant in October last year.
According to the Rosemont Hall website, the art deco building is the “perfect spot for friendly lunches, fun times and casual get togethers”.
“Outside, come for a fresh juice and a healthy Asian salad, while the kids play in the plush laneway and garden. Then stay for dinner in our beautiful restaurant and get transported to 1920s Hong Kong,” the website says.
“Don’t miss this suburban dining destination and home away from home in Adelaide’s beautiful inner-north.”
The website describes Mr Chan as a Cantonese eatery that “combines the best of Hong Kong with touches of nostalgia — think honey chicken and fried ice cream”.
Sunny’s Shop is described as “Bringing the exotic beaches of Phuket to the heart of Prospect” in a “vibrant, no-fuss spot” that will make a “memorable time for all the family”.
