Exclusive analysis by News Corp has revealed Australia’s top private primary school is the prestigious all-boys Sydney Grammar School in Darlinghurst.

The education juggernaut enjoys the nation’s top year 5 NAPLAN results along with excellent attendance and small class sizes.

We’ve assessed more than 2000 private primary schools nationwide, taking into account year 3 and 5 NAPLAN scores, student-staff ratios, socio-educational rating and attendance level.

The result is the ultimate primary school power list – celebrating the best-ranked 250 schools nationwide and the top 100 for New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland, top 20 for Tasmania, and top 10 for the Northern Territory and Geelong.

Sydney Grammar is joined by elite all-girls Sydney school Abbotsleigh in second place.

Melbourne’s Presbyterian Ladies’ College and coeducational Haileybury College took out third and fourth places, with all-boys St Aloysius’ College in Sydney rounding out the top five.

They are all combined primary and secondary schools with exceptional academic standards, high attendance levels and low student-teacher ratios.

Northcross Christian School in Sydney’s northern suburbs is the nation’s top-ranked standalone primary school in spot 16.

New South Wales

New South Wales private primary schools took out 110 places on the national top 250 list, including first and second spots, Sydney Grammar School and Abbotsleigh.

The majority of highly ranked NSW schools are in Sydney, but three schools outside the capital made the list.

Victoria

There were 74 high-performing Victorian private primary schools on the national top 250 list with all-girls Presbyterian Ladies’ College in Melbourne’s east taking out the top spot.

Victoria’s top-ranked standalone primary school is St Christopher’s School in Glen Waverley.

Queensland

A total of 27 Queensland private primary schools ranked in the national top 250 list, including top-ranked coeducational Queensland school St Peters Lutheran College in Indooroopilly taking spot 45.

South Australia

There were 14 South Australian private primary schools ranking in the national top 250 list with small Dara School in Morphettville taking the state’s top spot, placing 35th nationally.

All 14 schools on the national list are located in Adelaide, and include a mix of blue-chip and outer-suburban top performers.

Tasmania

Three Tasmanian private primary schools made it on to the national top 250 list, with John Calvin School in Launceston taking the state’s top spot.

Northern Territory

Haileybury Rendall School was the Northern Territory’s only private primary school to make the national top 250 list.

The Territory’s top 10 list includes primary schools from Darwin to Alice Springs.

Western Australia

There were 18 Western Australian private primary schools in the national top 250 list, with International School of Western Australia in City Beach taking out the state’s top spot.

The majority of WA schools are combined, including elite Christ Church Grammar School in Claremont.

Australian Capital Territory

Three ACT private primary schools made the national top 250 list with coeducational Radford College ranked number one in the territory and 180th nationally.
