A man has been charged with murder after police investigated a sudden death following an alleged assault on Bundaberg’s outskirts
Emergency crews were called to the Moore Park Rd address, about 2km north of the city at Gooburrum, at 7.50pm Friday, May 15, after reports a man was unconscious and not breathing.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man suffered significant head injuries in the incident.
Despite the best efforts by paramedics, the 42-year-old man died at the scene.
On Sunday, Queensland Police said officers had taken a 33-year-old Bundaberg North man into custody nearby.
He has since been charged with one count of murder.
The man was refused police bail and is scheduled to appear in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday, May 18.
Police have since taped off the property, nestled behind a roadside fruit stand and bushes, and investigators were still scouring the block at 11am Saturday.
Speaking to reporters in Bundaberg on Saturday afternoon, Detective Acting Inspector Anthony Green said investigations into the death were being conducted by the Criminal Investigation Branch and homicide detectives and remained ongoing.
Sgt Green said “early indications” were the men were known to each other, but it was “too early” for police to make any comment on whether either of them lived at the property, what allegedly happened in the lead-up to the altercation, and the circumstances of the man’s injuries which led to his death.
“At this early stage I’m not in a position to comment any further in relation to that,” Sgt Green said.
“We have at this stage got interpreters to assist us with our investigation.”
