A festival patron has been hospitalised after a horrific alleged homophobic attack in the Adelaide CBD.
The man was allegedly assaulted by a group of men not known to him on the corner of Bank St and North Tce at 3.50am on Sunday, October 18.
He was rushed to hospital with injuries sustained in the alleged attack.
The Adelaide Film Festival shared on social media that the victim, who had attended a screening of Jim Queen as part of the Feast Festival, was assaulted while waiting for a ride home.
The festival condemned the incident, stating that the nature of the attack appeared to be homophobic.
“We are devastated that in Adelaide, in 2026, a member of the LGBTQIA+ community has been subjected to violence of this kind,” the festival said in its post.
“Adelaide Film Festival and Feast Festival unequivocally condemn homophobia, violence and discrimination in all its forms. Everyone had a right to feel safe and respected in this city.”
The festival expressed its full support for the victim, condemning the violence.
“We stand with the person who was attacked with Adelaide’s LGBTQIA+ community and against homophobic violence and indeed violence of any kind,” it stated.
SAPOL said investigations to identify those responsible are ongoing.
