A man and an infant have died and another three people have been seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Sydney’s west.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Mamre Rd and Abbott Rd in Kemps Creek about 10.40pm Monday.
Upon arrival, paramedics found a sedan and van had collided head-on.
A man who was in the passenger seat of the sedan died at the scene.
A 25-year-old woman and a 15-month-old child, who were in the back seats, sustained critical injuries in the collision.
They were taken to Westmead Hospital and The Children’s Hospital in Westmead.
The infant died after arriving at hospital.
The driver of the sedan, a 21-year-old man on his learner’s permit, and the driver of the van, a 45-year-old man, both sustained minor injuries.
“Both men were taken to Liverpool Hospital for assessment and mandatory testing,” police said.
Police were told the sedan crashed into a ute first before continuing down the road and colliding with the van.
“The male driver of the ute escaped unharmed,” police said in a statement.
An investigation into the incident has been launched, with police blocking off roads with police tape.
Mamre Rd has since reopened in both directions.
However, the road between Elizabeth Drive and Bakers Lane remains closed.
“Motorists should continue to allow extra travel time in the area while traffic conditions return to normal,” a LiveTaffic NSW statement read.
