Sydney FC goalkeeper Harrison Devenish-Meares has been rewarded for his excellent 2025-26 campaign by being named captain of Professional Footballers Australia’s team of the season.

Devenish-Meares, who is preparing for the Sky Blues’ grand-final date on Saturday night with Auckland FC at Go Media Stadium, has kept 12 clean sheets in 29 appearances this season.

“Just being part of the professional football community in Australia means the world to me, so to be named captain of the team of the season feels very humbling and honestly quite surreal,” the 29-year-old custodian said.

“To be recognised by my peers in this way is something I’m incredibly grateful for.”

The squad, which is made up the 11 starters and seven substitutes, was selected by PFA A-League members, who cast votes at the end of the regular season last month.

Devenish-Meares got the captaincy nod due to getting more votes than any other player.

He is the only Sydney player in the starting team, which also includes three Auckland players – attackers Sam Cosgrove and Jesse Randall, and left-back Francis de Vries – as well as Spanish great Juan Mata, who starred for Melbourne Victory this season.

Former Socceroos captain Mark Milligan’s effort to guide Newcastle to the A-League premiership resulted him being named PFA team of the season coach.
