Architectural firm Hayball has won the ‘Mixed-Use’ category at the 2026 City of Port Phillip Design and Development Awards for developer CDL Australia’s The Archive Build to Rent development. Hayball Principals Ann Lau and David Jessup accepted the award.
Located in the heart of Melbourne’s largest urban renewal precinct at Fishermans Bend, builder Crema recently completed the scheme, which comprises 237 studio to two-bedroom Build to Rent apartments. The development advances Hayball’s commitment to creating thoughtfully designed communal spaces and building communities.
An entire floor has been dedicated to The Archive’s amenities, which include a gym, an extensive wellness area with saunas and a cold plunge pool, podcast rooms and co-working spaces, a cinema, sky lounge, private dining room, and landscaped outdoor barbecue areas.
“Congratulations to everyone involved in the project including our client CDL Australia, builder Crema, and the consultant team: Project Manager J2 Projects, Town Planner Planning & Property Partners, Sustainability by WRAP, Structural & Civil Engineer Webber Design Pty Ltd, Acoustics by Acoustic Logic, Development Managers New Urban Villages Projects by Crema and Operator Essence Communities.”
Statement, Hayball
The Normanby Road development sits 2kms away from the Melbourne CBD. A convenient tram line divides the north and south.
The southern part of Montague is distinguished by its heritage and character-lined laneways, which are highly valued by the local community, while the north pays homage to the legacy of industrial uses such as the former Dunlop Factory along Normanby Road (once one of the largest factories in Australia).
