The best spots to eat

One of the joys of living in Castlemaine is deciding where to eat. From puffy woodfired pizzas to handmade pasta, share plates inspired by Latin America or a next level restaurant serving only Victorian produce, you’ll want to arrive hungry.

Boomtown is more than a winery, cellar door and neighbourhood bistro – it’s become one of Castlemaine’s most sought-after venues. The ever-changing menu champions seasonal produce through generous share plates, house-made pickles, excellent pasta and focaccia (and the wines are crisp, juicy and delicious).

Castlemaine also boasts one of regional Victoria’s most acclaimed dining experiences – Bar Midland. Here you’ll find a deeply innovative menu using hyper-local ingredients – nothing grown, produced or made outside Victoria is used.

Origini (pictured above) is a family-run Italian institution serving comforting classics in a cosy, welcoming space. Expect dishes that taste like they’ve come straight from Nonna’s kitchen. Across the road is Gornelly’s – part wine bar, part neighbourhood eatery, where the menu changes regularly – from confit sardines and braised beans to a riotously colourful vegetable tian.
