A child has died in a house fire in Melbourne’s south-west overnight.
Emergency services were called to a house in Newbury Street, Werribee, just after midnight.
Victoria Police said a resident of the home died and a 40-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious burns.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) have since confirmed the victim was a child.
The child’s grandmother, Tracey, identified the victim as three-year-old Jordan Dashwood.

Relatives told the ABC another child, aged 11, escaped the fire by jumping out of a window.
The injured man is understood to be the father of the two children.
FRV said peer support and counselling have been made available to first responders.

FRV said crews arrived at the scene within three minutes of the blaze being reported to find the house fully ablaze.
Police say the circumstances of the fire are being investigated, and an arson chemist will attend the scene.
