A new Mexican venue opening in Norwest is setting out to bring a modern take on the cuisine in an area that the restaurant’s owner says is “thriving”.
Jeff Lee will open the Greater Western Sydney venue, Angelica, on Saturday 6 June, with the goal of creating a space that reflects the area’s energy.
“Angelica is so much more than a restaurant,” says Lee. “Whether you’re joining us for a quick lunch or a big celebration, we’re bringing lively energy, culture, and a real sense of occasion to the dining scene. Our passion is creating a welcoming experience for this growing community.”
Executive Chef Jonathan Villa (ex-The Collaroy, Queen Chow) was born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico and brings experience as the culinary force behind sister venue Baja Cantina. He will draw on his cultural heritage to deliver an opening menu that celebrates regional Mexican flavours through a modern lens.
Villa says he is passionate about taking traditional recipes and giving them a modern, refined expression.
“It’s all about bold flavours and big energy, creating an experience the local community will connect with, bringing a slice of what people love about Baja Cantina to Norwest,” says Villa.
The menu will hero regional Mexican favourites with signature house-made tortillas prepared fresh daily.
Highlight plates include duck mole with seared duck breast, oaxaca dark mole sauce, and homemade corn tortilla; barbacoa slow-cooked short rib and wagyu tacos; slow-cooked birria tacos; and Torres de Mariscos with octopus, prawns, scallops, cucumber, avocado, and salsa negra.
The dessert menu includes tres leches with salted cream and strawberries lechera panna cotta; orange mezcal granita; and traditional churros.
The drinks list, designed to complement the menu’s flavour profiles, including classic and signature margaritas, house-made sangria, and a tequila selection featuring producers like Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia, Patrón Reposado, 1800 Cristalino, and Don Julio 1942.
Angelica is located at Norwest Quarter, just minutes from Norwest Metro Station.
