Virgin Australia has finally announced when pet-friendly flights will depart from Adelaide as it expands its popular Pets in Cabin service.
The inaugural flight is scheduled to depart from Adelaide for Melbourne at 11:50am on June 23, with guests and their pets set to enjoy a special send-off at the departure gate.
The airline said strong customer demand has driven the rollout of the Australian-first service, which allows travellers to fly with their pets in the cabin.
Since launching in October, nearly 1,500 pets have accompanied their owners on their travels, offering Aussies more flexibility, choice and value.

To book a Pets in Cabin service departing Adelaide, guests will need to call the Virgin Australia Guest Contact Centre on 13 67 89.
Guests must agree to the Pets in Cabin Terms and Conditions to proceed with the booking.
Virgin Australia Pets in Cabin services are now available to book as follows:
Melbourne to Sunshine Coast (Maroochydore)
Sunshine Coast (Maroochydore) to Melbourne
Previously, major Australian carriers never allowed pets on leisure flights.

There are requirements your pet must meet in order to fly on a Virgin domestic flight.
Your four-legged friend must be a small cat or dog, with a combined weight (including the pet carrier) of no more than 8kg.
Your pet must be at least eight weeks old, up to date with vaccinations, and have a valid veterinary certificate if required.
Your pet also cannot be a prohibited breed, must not have given birth within the last seven days, and must fit comfortably in an approved pet carrier under the seat in front of you.
The pet must remain in their closed carrier at all times, except during security screening or whilst using the animal relief areas, and must not enter the airport terminal outside of the carrier.
Pets will soon be allowed on Virgin flights from Adelaide as the airline expands its popular program.

Virgin Australia Chief Marketing and Customer Operations Officer, Libby Minogue, said the Adelaide expansion marks another milestone in the airline’s commitment to innovative, customer-led travel experiences.
“We’ve seen an overwhelmingly positive response to the Pets in Cabin service,” she said.
“Pets are part of the family, and we know how important it is for many Australians to be able to travel with them interstate.
“We’re thankful for the support of Adelaide Airport and our airport partners around the country as we continue expanding the network and making the service available to more guests and their pets.”
