King gets on the board after Petracca’s brilliant pick-up
Ben King has his first goal of the night and the Giants are back in front!
Kieran Briggs drops an intercept mark that he probably should’ve gobbled up, and you can’t do that around Christian Petracca.
Petracca swoops in, picks up the ball with one hand off the ground and then hands off to Ben King, who snaps truly on the left boot under a little bit of pressure.
That’s Gold Coast’s first goal of the quarter after 12 inside 50s.

Gothard puts the Giants in front!
The Suns chance their arm once again and it pays off handsomely!
Another aggressive kick into the corridor, and it eventually ends in the hands of Phoenix Gothard, who takes an uncontested mark inside 50, and then plays on to kick the goal.
The Giants have kicked three goals in a row now after the Suns kicked the opening three.
Hardwick might break another window in the box if things keep going like this.

Cadman drills set shot to draw Giants closer
Geez, this kid is going to be a star isn’t he?
Aaron Cadman with a wonderful contested mark in a pack 20m out from goal.
He goes back and drills the set shot and the Suns lead is down to just four points.
Cadman’s got both of the Giants majors for the match.
Meanwhile, Clayton Oliver is up to a game-high 16 disposals. He’s having a sensational night so far.

King flattened in big marking contest
A heart-in-mouth moment for Suns supporters as Ben King lays motionless on the turf after a big marking contest.
Play continues with King sprawled out on the ground before the trainers are able to get to him.
The good news is aside from a little bit of a limp, King is able to continue and doesn’t even come off the ground for a check.
Meanwhile, Leek Aleer is the latest Giant to miss a set shot, making the Giants 1.9 for the night.
The scoreline is 0.3 to 0.2 for the quarter with 11 minutes left. It’s safe to say we’ve not had Champagne Footy out here.

Humphrey goes close on audacious banana
The Suns opening the second quarter with a couple of misses of their own to sit at 3.6.
Bailey Humphrey the latest culprit, although you can’t really blame him here as he hits the post with a set shot banana attempt from the boundary.
That would’ve been a Goal of the Year contender, had he nailed it.

Hogan strapped up after gnarly hand injury
GWS star Jesse Hogan had blood streaming from his right hand after splitting the webbing in a marking contest.
The Giants have confirmed there is no structural damage to the hand, and Hogan’s back out there to start the second quarter with his hand bandaged up.
It’ll be interesting to see how he goes trying to mark the footy with that on.

It’s been a long weekend for everyone
Did commentator just say Robert Walls will be watching no doubt? He did VAD.
– Melza
Just for reference, Robert Walls died just under a year ago, so he will NOT in fact be watching Suns-Giants.

Cadman breaks Giants drought with brilliant finish
Lovely transition from a back-half stoppage from the Giants as Finn Callaghan finds Aaron Cadman with a long cross-field kick.
Callaghan’s kick is basically a cut-out pass that takes out the entire Suns defence.
Cadman, after marking around 70m out from goal, closes to 55m and drills it on the run. What a finish!
The Giants have done well to hang around after that early Suns spurt. The margin back to just eight points now.

The misses are piling up for the Giants
GWS definitely working its way back into this match, but they’ve got nothing to show for it just yet.
Aaron Cadman and Stephen Coniglio both miss incredibly tough set shots from either pocket to leave the Giants at 0.5.
GWS leads the clearance count 7-5 so far with Clayton Oliver already up to three himself.

Hogan sprays set shot as GWS drought continues
The Giants are finally starting to get a few repeat inside 50 entries of their own now, mid-way into the first term.
A lovely chain sees Jesse Hogan have a set shot directly in front from 35m out, but he badly sprays it.
The Giants are 0.3 for the night so far, but the signs in the last couple of minutes have been a lot better.

Anderson makes it three straight for the Suns
Gold Coast all over GWS like a cheap suit at the moment.
They’re getting repeat inside 50 after repeat inside 50, that count reads 9-1 at the moment, and this time a centred kick from the pocket finds Noah Anderson.
Anderson goes back and drills the set shot from directly in front.
The Suns have a pressure rating of 227 so far tonight, it’s been an excellent start.
Maybe Hardwick’s window should be broken more often!

Petracca drills another long-range goal for Suns
The Suns are having no problem from downtown so far tonight!
Wil Powell kicked the first one, and he’s got the goal assist here, as he finds Christian Petracca with a brilliant kick coming out of the defensive half.
Petracca’s around 55m out from goal and decides to go for it, and the ball sails right through the middle.
The Suns have six of the first seven inside 50s of the match with Bodhi Uwland the leading ball-winner on the ground with six touches.

Powell strikes after crucial turnover from Giants
There’s the first skill error of the night and it leads directly to goal!
A shocking kick coming out of defensive 50 and Wil Powell hits his marker with a lovely sidestep and slams it home from 55m out!
This has been a positive start from the Suns, who have recorded 19 of the first 22 disposals of the match.

Some deadset average scenes in the lead-up to the Suns-Giants clash at Carrara.
A TV set-up crew has accidentally broken a window in the Gold Coast coaches box.
