A chilling letter from a childcare worker, who has been accused of 329 offences, has been unearthed.

Hamish Tait, 35, is accused of over 300 offences against up to 150 children between 2009 and 2025 while working at different centres in Sydney.

The charges include 162 counts of producing child abuse material, 81 counts of filming a person engaged in a private act without consent and 24 counts of using a child under 14 years for the production of child abuse material.

If all the charges are upheld, Tait would be the country’s worst-ever child sex offender.

In a newsletter sent to parents at one of the childcare centres he worked at in 2015, Tait said why he enjoyed the job.

“You will find me playing in the Cheeky Monkeys room where I teach and learn as the Team Leader,” the newsletter at Sydney’s Fit Kidz Putney centre reads.

“I have been working in the childcare industry since 2009 and began working at the Fit Kidz centre in Glenwood South. Since then I have been at five of the Fit Kidz centres.

“The best part of working with children for me is watching them connect with the world around them. Watching moments where a child truly understands a concept or exhibits pure love towards another is what makes me come to work.

“Seeing their spirits grow through these events each day is truly a humbling thing to be a part of.”

He said he spent his weekends with his fiancée, their dog, or being at a market “which give us a chance to experience this amazing earth with smiles and love”.

The newsletter said Mr Tait worked as a volunteer firefighter and ran a “portrait and landscape photography business”.

He described himself as having a “passion for the Aboriginal cultures across Australia and always look for every opportunity to be a part of something where I can learn more about a different culture”.

Police have set up a website under Operation Moonbi, which includes a list of the 55 childcare centres where Mr Tait worked at or attended between 2009 and 2025.
