Socceroos goalkeeper Patrick Beach has signed a five-year deal with French club Troyes.
Melbourne City confirmed on Sunday night that the 22-year-old gloveman – who displaced Socceroos captain Mat Ryan at the FIFA World Cup to become Australia’s first-choice custodian – would be leaving the two-time A-League champions for an “undisclosed fee”.
“Patrick’s journey at Melbourne City is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when talent is matched with hard work, resilience and the right environment,” City’s director of football Michael Petrillo said.
“From the day he arrived, Patrick embraced every challenge. Nothing was handed to him and he earned every opportunity through his commitment to improving every day.
“We’re incredibly proud that the environment we’ve built at Melbourne City has helped support Patrick’s development from one of Australia’s brightest young goalkeepers into an A-League champion, Socceroo, Australia’s first-choice goalkeeper at the FIFA World Cup and now a player who has earned the opportunity to continue his career in France’s Ligue 1.
“Patrick leaves with our sincere thanks for everything he has contributed to the club. He’s been an outstanding representative of Melbourne City both on and off the pitch, and we wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.”
Beach, who made 64 appearances in all competitions for City, said his time at the Melbourne club had “shaped” him as a “player and as a person”.
“This club has given me the opportunity to challenge myself every day, improve my game and ultimately fulfil my dream of representing the Socceroos and Australia at the FIFA World Cup – I’ll always be incredibly grateful for that,” he said.
“My teammates, coaches and all of the staff have played such an important role in my journey, and I’ll leave with friendships and memories that I’ll carry with me forever.
“Winning the (2024-25 A-League) championship at AAMI Park and celebrating with our fans are moments I’ll never forget.
“I want to thank everyone involved at Melbourne City for the support they’ve shown me from the moment I arrived. I’ll always look back on my time here with enormous pride.”
Like Melbourne City, Beach’s new club is owned by the City Football Group.
Coached by former Lille and Monaco midfielder Stephane Dumont, Troyes won last season’s French second division title to earn promotion.
