Many east coast residents are set to see ongoing showers on Sunday before dry conditions return for most residents of one state in the new week.
A weather system brought damp and cloudy conditions across much of coastal northern New South Wales and southern Queensland on Saturday.
Heading into Sunday, Sky News Weather Meteorologist Marina Neuman said showers are expected to continue across some areas of the east coast.
“Especially focused on Lismore, as well as Brisbane and the Gold Coast,” she said.
“Lismore is seeing the potential for some of the highest rainfall totals.”
However, the meteorologist explained that “very dry conditions” were expected to move into most of New South Wales.
“Ongoing showers across Coffs Harbour and then pushing north from the Gold Coast into Bundaberg as we’re heading into our Sunday night,” she said.
“This is when things really begin to change, that lifting of that system, moving away from that otherwise stagnant system.
“That’s going to happen as we head into our Monday, allowing for dry conditions to return from Monday into Tuesday.”
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Meteorology has issued hazardous surf warnings for New South Wales’ Byron and Coffs Coasts and Queensland’s Gold Coast Waters on Sunday.
NSW Police Marine Area Command has advised people in affected regions to avoid walking near surf-exposed areas and consider not entering the water.
