A 16-year-old boy has been taken into police custody after his mother’s body and his injured 12-year-old sister were discovered in Perth’s southeast on Tuesday morning.
The 35-year-old woman’s body was found with stab wounds in Bentley, about 8km southeast of Perth, at 6.25am.
A 12-year-old girl, who is the daughter of the deceased woman, fled the house and called triple-0.
Detective Acting Inspector Jessica Securo said the girl was found nearby with stab wounds and was in a serious condition.
“She was injured at the Mills Street, Bentley, residence as well and she’s been able to flee that area and contact police,” she said.
The girl was taken to Perth Children’s Hospital, where she remains receiving treatment.
“We’re very thankful that members of the public did stop, assist the female and St John’s were called as soon as possible to provide the 12-year-old that lifesaving care that she needed.”
The 16-year-old boy, who was known to police, was found at the home when emergency services arrived at the property and was arrested at the scene.
It is believed the deceased woman and the two children lived together at the home.
“A 16-year-old male, who is the son of the deceased female and the brother of the injured girl, has been taken into police custody,” Detective Acting Inspector Securo said.
“While the investigation remains in its early stages, police are investigating this as a suspected family violence homicide and homicide squad have carriage.”
No charges have been laid and the investigation remains ongoing.
“This incident will have a significant impact on the family, friends and loved ones of all those involved, as well as the broader community,” she said.
“Recognising the confronting nature of this investigation, WA Police health and welfare support services are in place for all officers involved in the response.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
