A-League stalwart and former Socceroo Andrew Nabbout has rejected a move to Asia to instead sign a new one-year deal with Melbourne City.
It’s understood that Nabbout had the chance to join Hong Kong club Lee Man, who are coached by former Wellington Phoenix mentor Giancarlo Italiano.
However, the 33-year-old forward opted to sign for a seventh season with City.
“Melbourne City has become home over the past six years, so it means a lot to have the opportunity to pull on the City shirt for another season,” said Nabbout, who has made 115 appearances in all competitions for the Melbourne club.
“I know I have an important role to play both on the pitch and around the dressing room. I’m looking forward to embracing that responsibility throughout the season.”
Meanwhile, Brisbane Roar have confirmed the signing of teenage APIA Leichhardt sensation Max Court.
NewsWire revealed earlier this month that the 17-year-old prodigy was set to join the Roar from the NPL NSW club.
“Signing for Brisbane Roar is a huge moment for me and my family,” Court said.
“The club’s record of giving young players real opportunities was a big part of my decision, and I can’t wait to get to work and earn my chance in the first team.”
Attacking weapon Court has signed a three-year deal understood to be worth $250,000, a total that could lift to as high as $400,000 depending on bonus payments.
The deal is likely to make Court the highest earning A-League player under the age of 18.
Should the Roar eventually decide to sell Court to an overseas club, APIA Leichhardt would receive a percentage of the transfer fee.
