A man died after falling during a party at an isolated campground north of the Sunshine Coast, with another man rushed to hospital under police guard after a suspected “altercation”.
Queensland Police were called to Hidden Camp, a popular farmstay and camping venue north of Glenwood just after 2.30am on Saturday after they were told “a 40-year-old Kallangur man had fallen following an altercation with another man”.
It is understood the venue was hosting a ticketed underground music festival called Rhythm of the Wild.
When they arrived, police found the 40-year-old had sustained “critical injuries,” and he died at the scene a short time later.
A 33-year-old Burpengary man was taken to Gympie Hospital under police guard.
Detectives from the Maryborough Criminal Investigation Branch are appealing to members of the public for assistance.
The owners of Hidden Camp wouldn’t comment on the specifics of the incident, but said they had been hosting a “private” event on the property when the alleged altercation took place.
On its website, Hidden Camp advertises itself as a place where people can “get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy nature”.
The event page on Humanitix lists a lineup of dozens of musical acts, and describes the festival as a place where people can “dance without limits, explore without maps and experience the transformative power of music in the heart of the wild”.
On Saturday morning, the organisers cancelled the remainder of the planned three-day event.
“Due to the tragic passing of a valued member of our community, we ask that nobody comes to the property unless specifically requested,” an organiser wrote.
“Please respect the privacy of the family, friends and everyone affected as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.”
Locals complained about the noise carried onto neighbouring properties by the event in the Glenwood community Facebook group.
“The noise carried well beyond the property boundaries and disrupted what is usually a peaceful rural community,” one woman said.
“Glenwood residents deserve to have their peace respected, not sacrificed for profit.”
The investigation is ongoing.
