Ryan White has been named Adelaide United’s 2026 Aurelio Vidmar Medalist, capping off a breakout campaign that confirmed the young midfielder as one of the Club’s brightest emerging talents.

Youngest Ever: Ryan White Crowned 2026 Aurelio Vidmar Medalist

At just 20 years of age, White becomes the youngest ever recipient of the Aurelio Vidmar Medal – a remarkable achievement and further recognition of a season defined by growth, consistency, and match-winning impact.

In a year where Adelaide United continued to place its faith in youth, White stood tall. Composed beyond his years and fearless in key moments, he established himself as an important figure in the Reds’ midfield while continuing his rise on the national stage.

A Breakthrough Season

White made 46 appearances across all competitions in 2025/26 and missed just two rounds all season, sitting out only Rounds 1 and 4 before featuring in every other league match.

In the Isuzu UTE A-League Men, he made 23 appearances and started 17 times, scoring three goals in a season that showcased both his technical quality and growing influence in the senior side.

Among his standout moments were a superb solo goal against Melbourne City in Round 5, helping the Reds secure a memorable 4-1 win with 10 men, and a crucial finish away to Premiers Newcastle Jets after being played through by Anselmo in one of the side’s most significant results of the campaign.

Those moments were reflective of White’s year as a whole – calm under pressure, sharp in decisive moments, and increasingly capable of stepping up when his side needed him most.

White’s fitness and engine have been central to his outstanding season. Among players who have completed a full match of 90 minutes or more, he ranks No.1 for metres covered per minute, peaking at an incredible 124m/min.

Across the campaign, White has covered 172.2km – further than the distance from Coopers Stadium to Murray Bridge, and then on to Nuriootpa.

From South Australia to the Senior Stage

Ryan’s journey to this point is one built on local development, perseverance, and performance.

A South Australian product, White began his football journey with Para Hills Knights, where his talent quickly became clear. From there, he progressed through Football South Australia’s NTC program before joining Adelaide United’s Youth setup, following another short stint back at Para Hills.

His development accelerated rapidly. In 2023, he played an important role in Adelaide United’s RAA NPLSA Championship-winning campaign, scoring five goals. He backed that up in 2024 with an outstanding individual season in the state’s top flight, netting 10 goals in 23 matches and underlining his readiness for the next step.

White made his senior competitive debut for the Club in the Australia Cup Round of 32 against Blacktown City FC, becoming the 209th player to represent Adelaide United.

That upward trajectory was further reinforced in 2024 when he committed his future to the Club, signing a long-term deal through until 2029.

A message from Airton Andrioli

“Ryan deserves this recognition because his season has been outstanding. For a young player to show that level of consistency, maturity, and courage in big moments is not easy, but he has embraced every challenge in front of him.

“What I like most about Ryan is that he is always willing to learn and always willing to work. He has a fantastic engine, but more importantly he has the mentality to keep improving every day. He gives everything for the team, he plays without fear, and he has earned the trust of the players and staff around him.

“This award is a credit to Ryan, but also to the pathway at this Club. He is another young South Australian who has taken his opportunity and shown what is possible when talent, hard work, and belief come together. We are very proud of him, but we also know this is just the beginning for Ryan.”

A Future Taking Shape

Still only at the beginning of his senior career, White’s 2025/26 season felt like an arrival.

This award recognises more than just numbers. It reflects the trust he earned, the consistency he delivered, and the belief he has inspired in those around him. Whether driving forward from midfield, creating moments of quality, or producing in high-pressure situations, White showed he belongs at this level — and that his ceiling remains incredibly high.

To be named Aurelio Vidmar Medalist at 20 is a significant milestone. For Ryan White, it is both a reward for an outstanding season and a signal of what may still lie ahead.
