A staple of Cabramatta has been sold, making way for a new school in the area as part of an $15m-plus deal.

The business at the property, Brescia Furniture at 119-121 Cabramatta Rd, has been in operation since 1961.

It has been held by the Brescia family for more than 60 years, since founder Antonio Brescia migrated from Italy and established what would become a leading retailer of premium imported Italian furnishings in Western Sydney.

The site of the family business has been sold to Warakirri College – an independent secondary school for students aged 15-22 who have disconnected from mainstream education pathways – for a price over $15m.

A development application has been approved by Fairfield City Council for the conversion of the site into a Cabramatta campus, with the project holding an estimated capital investment value of $11.3m.

Warakirri College principal Carolyn Blanden said the college was excited to be working with Fairfield Council to “support young people seeking a positive future”.

“We want our students to learn about the values of courage, resilience and contribution which characterise the Brescia Family and others like them who have built this community,” she said.

Colliers Sydney West director Harry Bui said it had been a “privilege” to represent the Brescia family in the sale of their “iconic property”.

“We were able to secure the right buyer in Warakirri College, whose vision for the site aligns strongly with the future needs of the Cabramatta community,” he said.

“The transition from a longstanding retail use to an education facility is a significant and positive outcome for the area.

“This sale is also one of the largest commercial transactions in Cabramatta’s history following the $31.3m sale of the Commonwealth Bank building in 2025, further highlighting the strength of the market.”
