An Adelaide favourite is back this month, with Bowerbird Design Market bringing a fresh boutique feel, a wall of local artworks, and a beautifully curated lineup of Australian makers to its stylish new home at the Adelaide Showground.
After 16 years as one of South Australia’s most beloved creative events, Bowerbird is returning this May and entering an exciting new era. Embracing a more boutique, considered format, it offers visitors a relaxed and curated shopping experience in the light filled Ridley Centre at the Adelaide Showground.

The shift in style reflects how locals want to shop, with less rushing to discover a less overwhelming lineup. Expect a thoughtfully selected variety of Australian designers, makers and producers with collections across fashion, homewares, lifestyle, jewellery and art. Everything is showcased in a modern, light-filled setting designed to make browsing a pleasure rather than a marathon.
“Over the last decade and a half, Bowerbird has grown into a much-loved part of Adelaide’s creative calendar. But like all good things, it needed to respond to consumer and designer needs,” shared Bowerbird’s Director, Peggy Byrne. “After 16 years of big, bustling events, we are reshaping the experience into something more boutique, more intentional, and more in tune with how we are choosing to shop now.”

Visitors can expect a strong mix of local favourites, regional South Australian talent, and interstate makers travelling to Adelaide for the occasion. There will also be a fashion parade, where models walk through the market wearing designers’ outfits and directing customers to each designer, providing a new and exciting way to see products.
One of the standout features returning this month is the 30×30 Art Gallery, now in its fourth year. The exhibition will feature more than 60 original works from South Australian artists, all created in the same 30x30cm format. The collection offers visitors the chance to discover affordable, collectable art while directly supporting local creatives.
“These pieces are displayed together in a continuous wall of art. Step back and take it all in, then step closer to find the one that truly speaks to you,” shared Peggy.
No Bowerbird outing would be complete without some good food and drink. This year, attendees can enjoy local eats, sweet treats, an all-day bar and look out for the $5 off drink vouchers offered throughout the weekend. Not bad for a day of shopping.

Peggy adds that in a challenging economic climate, support means more than ever. “We encourage people to visit Bowerbird and meet all our makers, local favourites and those who have travelled far to be with us. Choosing to shop from any of these makers is an investment not just in their beautiful products, but in the people themselves.”
So, whether you’re on the hunt for the perfect gift, looking to refresh your wardrobe, add to your art collection, or simply keen for a great day out, Bowerbird is sure to tick all the boxes.
