Footage has emerged of two children who look younger than 10 attempting to break into a Brisbane home amid a spate of break-ins across multiple affluent suburbs.

Multiple recent break-ins have prompted residents in Holland Park to create a group chat that alerts residents when something is happening in the area, even when their phones are on do not disturb.

This follows other suburbs who have been taking the fight against crime into their own hands for the past few years – like Rochedale South Neighbourhood Crime watchers and residents in Bulimba who have created multiple crime forums.

Footage given to The Courier-Mail shows a group of thieves attempting to break into a Holland Park home – with two of the alleged offenders looking very young.

Across the same 24-hour period residents have reported attempted break-ins in Holland Park, Norman Park, Coorparoo and Carindale.

Jack who asked for his surname not to be used said he was notified of the break-in from his cameras, saying it was the third incident in less than 18 months.

“We have got a very rigid lockup process at night. The reality is all it takes is one minor slip and it just could happen to be that night that you get robbed,” he said.

“It looks like 10-years-old, they use the 10-year-old to jump the fence and then the 10-year-old opens up all the gates.

“There’s no way they could have got a full grown adult over our fence. They would have had to vault a kid over.”

Jack said all the recent incidents had prompted residents to start a neighbourhood watch.

“It’s literally not for any other purpose other than informing each other, if your phone goes on do not disturb at night, you can have that group as one of the contact groups that doesn’t go on Do Not Disturb.

“It’s all about the timeliness of making that information available and telling people there’s a car out there doing dodgy stuff and just to have a little bit of awareness because it comes in waves.

“You get a text when there’s a hailstorm coming to put your car under cover. Well, this is the same, two minutes ago, someone pulled up and tried to rob me. If you’ve got your car out on the street, go get it.”

Police say they attended a reported break-in Holland Park.

“Officers are aware of further social media posts regarding the matter and are making further inquires,” a Queensland Police spokesman said.

“Anyone who may have relevant CCTV or other vision, or information about this matter is asked to come forward.”
