McInnes is without a deal for next season and according to the SMH, the Bears are keen to pounce on the Sharks star.

They’ve reportedly offered McInnes a two-year deal until the end of 2028.

Cronulla are open to keeping the 32-year-old but there’s also been interest from other NRL clubs and even Super League teams in the UK.

While McInnes has yet to make a decision, he isn’t the only Shark with decisions to make on their future. Several Cronulla players are off contract at the end of this season.

Teammate Siosifa Talakai is one who has been forced out the door, with Talakai signing with Perth.

If McInnes is to sign with Perth, he’d become their most high-profile addition to date.

FORMER BRONCOS HOOKER AIMING FOR RETURN TO AUS

A member of the Brisbane Broncos team that won the 2025 NRL Premiership, Tyson Smoothy’s time overseas could come to an end sooner than expected.

Less than 12 months into a three-year contract with Super League outfit Wakefield Trinity, Love Rugby League reports that Smoothy has expressed a desire to return to Australia.

It is understood that his family is keen on returning home and he has already approached the club about an early departure.

While the two parties are said to remain on amicable terms, he is extremely unlikely to be handed a mid-season exit, meaning he will be there until at least the end of the 2026 season.

Set to return to Australia, the decision opens up the door for a potential comeback to the NRL and for Smootyh to add to his 46 matches for the Broncos and Melbourne Storm.
