Melbourne Girls Grammar are school footy’s leading force again.

The powerhouse school produced a comprehensive performance to claim a fourth successive Herald Sun Shield senior girls premiership.

They claimed an 8.7 (55) to 3.5 (23) win over a brave Carey Grammar at Port Melbourne’s ETU Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Melbourne co-coach Tennille Nash said it would “take a while” for the achievement of four straight titles to sink in.

“We’re very lucky because we have a lot of skilful players but I think what makes us stand out a little more and helps us win games is we actually play as a team,” Nash said.

“We play very well together. We’ve got players from year 9 to 12 and they all get along. They just rally together.

“Four in a row is quite amazing and a few of these girls have played all four. It’s just amazing to see them come through the program.

“In our program for girls footy, we had 92 students sign up. Just to see girls come in and want to be involved in something is absolutely outstanding.”

Melbourne dominated territory for most of the game but could only muster a 16-point lead at the main break after holding Carey to just one goal in the first quarter.

Eventually, Melbourne broke the game open with three goals to none in the third term and stretched the margin to 37 points at the final break.

To Carey’s credit, they demonstrated tremendous character to run out the game after Melbourne made it a 43-point game early in the last.
