Adelaide is heading into a cool, mostly grey stretch of weather, with light showers lingering through the weekend before brighter and slightly warmer conditions return early next week.
Today, the clouds will stick around across the city, with a medium chance of showers, especially from late morning into the afternoon. Temperatures are set to top out at just 19 degrees in the CBD, with slightly cooler conditions in the hills, where Mount Barker is only expected to reach 16 degrees. Southwesterly winds will shift southerly later in the day, keeping that late-autumn chill in the air.
Tomorrow looks much the same, with another shower or two possible, again most likely from late morning into the afternoon. Adelaide’s maximum will remain at 19 degrees after an overnight low of 11, while winds turn southerly during the middle of the day before easing later on. By Sunday, the city should start to feel a little more settled. It will stay cloudy, but the chance of rain drops right back, with only a slight chance of a passing shower and a top of 19 degrees.
The new week brings a gradual improvement. Monday is forecast to be partly cloudy with light winds and a slightly warmer top of 20 degrees. From there, Adelaide should see a more noticeable lift. Tuesday is shaping up as the pick of the week, with mostly sunny skies, light winds becoming easterly during the day, and a milder maximum of 23 degrees.
That brighter break may not last too long. By Wednesday, cloud is expected to increase again, along with a medium chance of showers during the morning. Temperatures will still hold at 23 degrees, with easterly winds continuing. Thursday keeps the partly cloudy skies but brings a higher chance of showers, with up to 5mm possible and a top of 23 degrees. Northeasterly winds will add a little movement, but overall it looks like Adelaide’s week will finish on a slightly more unsettled note.
Across South Australia, the broader pattern is being driven by a high pressure system moving slowly eastwards south of the Bight over the next few days. That will keep much of the state under cooler-than-average daytime temperatures through the weekend, especially across the southern agricultural areas. Isolated light showers are forecast for southern districts and near western coasts from Friday through Monday, while patchy morning fog is also expected in parts of the South East, Murraylands and the west at various points over the weekend and into Monday.
Rainfall totals are expected to stay light for most places, with less than 2mm across the far northeast, the northern agricultural area and the far south of the pastoral districts. In the southern agricultural area, totals of 2 to 5mm are more likely, with 5 to 10mm possible in more exposed coastal and elevated areas.
For coastal communities and anyone heading out on the water near Adelaide, conditions remain relatively manageable, though still worth watching. Adelaide Metropolitan Waters will see southerly winds and seas around 1 metre on Friday, easing over the weekend as winds tend east to southeasterly and seas fall below 0.5 metres by Sunday and Monday.
Happy Friday!
