Seven teens, including a 14-year-old girl, have been accused of murder following a violent carjacking near a Queensland university.

The seven teenagers had their matters mentioned before the Brisbane Childrens Court on Friday.

One 17-year-old boy appeared via video link waving, making heart signals and blowing kisses to his parents sitting in court as his murder charge was heard.

Six of the seven teenagers were ordered to appear again on Monday, August 17 for hearings in regards to multiple police applications for DNA testing, with some opposing the move.

One boy gave permission for his DNA to be tested without contest.

All seven defendants’ matters were adjourned for mention before the Brisbane Childrens Court on September 1.

Emergency services were called to Victoria Park Rd, Kelvin Grove, near the Queensland University of Technology about 10.25pm on July 24 following reports of an assault.

It is understood the alleged assault did not take place on QUT property.

A 27-year-old Kiels Mountain man was found with life-threatening injuries and taken to hospital for treatment.

Police allege a group of seven teenagers assaulted the man and stole his 2025 BYD Shark 6, leaving him behind.

The BYD Shark was found abandoned the next morning on Barter Ave in Holland Park.

Multiple teens were initially located and charged with various offences including an array of armed robbery and assault charges.

Four of those arrested were dealt with under the Youth Justice Act and did not face charges in court.

On Thursday afternoon, police advised the man died in hospital from his injuries on August 6.

Subsequently, seven teenagers were charged with murder.

Police are urging anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV vision between 8.10pm and 8.40pm on July 24 of Kelvin Grove Road, near the intersection of Musk Ave, in Kelvin Grove to contact them.

They are specifically appealing for two potential witnesses, seen driving in the area, to come forward.

The two drivers are not believed to have been involved in the alleged offending.

The first potential witness was last seen driving a dark coloured SUV along Victoria Park Rd, Blamey Street and Musk Ave around 10.16pm on July 24.

The other driver was last seen in a blue sedan at 10.16pm on Carroway St at the intersection with Victoria Park Road.

A 17-year-old Kelvin Grove boy, 16-year-old Alderley boy, 16-year-old Middle Park boy, 15-year-old Calamvale boy, 16-year-old East Ipswich boy, 15-year-old Holland Park girl, and a 14-year-old Kelvin Grove girl were additionally charged with murder after previously being charged with other alleged offences relating to the assault.

Before the murder charges were laid on Thursday, the 17-year-old Kelvin Grove boy was charged with grievous bodily harm, robbery in company and assault occasioning bodily harm.

He was refused police bail and first appeared in court on the charges on July 27.

The 16-year-old Alderley boy was also charged with grievous bodily harm and robbery in company but dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

The 14-year-old Kelvin Grove girl was initially charged with one count of robbery in company and dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

The 16-year-old Middle Park boy was first charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, assaults occasioning bodily harm whilst in company, robbery in company, and fraud – dishonest application of property of another.

He was refused police bail and appeared in court on July 27.

The 15-year-old Holland Park girl was charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, assaults occasioning bodily whilst in company, and robbery in company.

She was denied police bail and appeared in court on July 29.

The 15-year-old Calamvale boy and 16-year-old East Ipswich boy were charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, assaults occasioning bodily harm whilst in company, and robbery in company.

The East Ipswich boy was also charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm.

Both boys were refused police bail and appeared in court on July 28.

A 15-year-old Coorparoo girl and 16-year-old Greenslopes girl were initially charged with one count each of attempted stealing and attempted robbery in company but dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

The pair are not charged with murder.

The seven teens accused of murder are expected to appear in Brisbane Childrens Court on Thursday afternoon.
