Moviegoers in Perth’s north will be able to experience blockbusters in a whole new way, thanks to a record-breaking upgrade at a popular movie theatre.
Cinema giant HOYTS unveiled a gigantic 25 metre APEX screen at its Karrinyup location earlier this week, much to the joy of Perth film buffs.
The new feature has made history as the largest indoor cinema screen on the planet.
Powered by more than 24 million pixels and with a display six times brighter than traditional theatres, HOYTS APEX is said to offer audiences a more immersive watching experience.
It marks the second HOYTS APEX opened in Australia this week, following Melbourne Central — however, the Perth screen is three metres larger than its eastern coast counterpart.
The newest addition to the popular cinema also includes five daybeds in the front row, perfect for lazing in during a long blockbuster.
HOYTS CEO and President Damian Keogh said the Karrinyup upgrade is a defining moment for the Australian cinema franchise.
“At HOYTS Karrinyup, we are proud to introduce the world’s largest LED cinema screen,” he said.

“The scale is breathtaking, but what truly sets HOYTS APEX apart is how seamlessly the technology comes together.”
Adam Wrightson, the IT director of HOYTS cinema group, echoed Mr Keogh’s opinion, saying the latest technology marks a new era for Australian cinema.
“HOYTS APEX delivers what is simply the most advanced big screen experience available today,” Adam said.
“The LED screen is fully acoustically transparent, allowing sound to pass directly through the movie. This means audio is placed exactly where it should be — on screen — delivering a level of precision and immersion audiences haven’t experienced before.
“At Karrinyup, on a screen of this size, the experience is completely immersive, with every detail of the story amplified by its scale.”
The upgrade comes as a slew of blockbuster films hit WA cinemas — with acclaimed movies like The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Michael landing in theatres over recent weeks.
