Westminster is set to welcome five new eateries as part of a hospitality expansion at Stirling Central Shopping Centre.
Existing retail space in the centre’s south-western corner will be converted into a new dining precinct featuring adjoining alfresco areas under plans submitted by the centre’s owners.
Four of the restaurant/cafe/takeaway tenancies will each be permitted to accommodate between 30 and 40 diners, while the largest, spanning 744sqm, will have capacity for about 200 guests.
Twelve parking bays will be removed to accommodate the development, though the carpark reportedly reaches only about 60 per cent capacity, even during peak periods.
The City of Stirling council unanimously gave the proposal the green light this week.
The project’s designer, acting on behalf of the centre’s owners, said the project would secure the centre’s long-term future.
“The project has been designed (with a focus on) … adapting the site to accommodate the changing needs of the owners and ensure its continued value for the near and long-term future,” the designers said in the development application.
“The goal is to create a high-quality addition, renovating the existing home, future-proofing the site commensurate with the other high-quality residences and developments in the area, in a sustainable and sensitive way.”

The new venues will be permitted to operate between 6am and 11pm, seven days a week, with individual trading hours expected to vary by tenancy.
Stirling Central is on Wanneroo Road, less than 500m from the Reid Highway interchange.
The shopping centre opened in 1982 and was redeveloped and expanded during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
It is now home to more than 40 stores, including Spudshed, Woolworths, Chemist Warehouse and Australia Post, as well as speciality grocers, fast-food outlets, health and beauty businesses and other services.
