The AFL has announced the release of the All-Australian squad has been delayed after Sydney Swans stars were questioned over an alleged incident in Melbourne.
Four players Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, James Jordon and Riley Bice have been questioned by police but there is no suggestion that the allegations are true, only that they have been made.
The AFL has responded by postponing the announcement of the 46-player squad.
The list was set to be released on Tuesday, prior to the final week of the home and away season.
The All-Australian squad will be confirmed on August 25, at the AFL Awards night.
That marks a change from previous years when the squad was announced on the Monday after the final round of the season.
It comes amid a probe into multiple Swans stars, the outcome of which is pending.
The club is considering standing down any players allegedly involved with head coach Dean Cox expressing his “disappointment” over the matter.
A “shocked” and “disappointed” Swans CEO Matthew Pavlich briefly fronted the media on Monday afternoon to issue a statement.
“We can confirm that several players were involved in an alleged incident last night in Melbourne,” Mr Pavlich said in a statement on Monday afternoon.
“We have identified this to the AFL and we are working with them and also the relevant authorities on this matter.
“We are still piecing together exactly what has transpired here and we have our own internal inquiries ongoing.
“It is safe to say we are extremely shocked and disappointed that this has taken place and that the players have found themselves in this situation.
“We understand the level of interest in the matter. There is a lot of speculation but given it’s a police matter that is all we can actually say.”
It comes after the club released a statement which read: “The Sydney Swans can confirm several players were involved in an alleged incident in Melbourne last night.”
“The Swans have notified the AFL and relevant authorities and cannot provide further comment at this stage.”
