Adelaide is in for a cool, fairly grey stretch of weather over the next week, with a few showers on the way, a calmer weekend break, and then another wetter change early next week. For anyone heading out around the city, the main takeaway is to keep a jacket handy through Friday, enjoy the drier spell on Sunday, and keep an eye on conditions again by Monday as showers return.
Today, Thursday, stays partly cloudy with a high chance of showers across the southern suburbs and a medium chance elsewhere, with the city heading for a cool top of 17 degrees. Northwesterly winds will swing westerly through the afternoon before easing at night, which should make for a chilly end to the day. Friday remains cloudy and cool with a possible shower or two and a top of 16 degrees, while light winds and a damp feel are set to keep things wintry across Adelaide.
Saturday looks a touch brighter, though not completely dry, with a medium chance of a morning shower before skies become partly cloudy later in the day. Temperatures will lift only slightly to 17 degrees. By Sunday, Adelaide gets the pick of the coming few days, with partly cloudy skies, light winds, and a forecast top of 18 degrees. There is also the chance of morning fog about the hills, so early travellers through elevated areas may want to allow a little extra time.
The more settled break doesn’t last long. Monday turns cloudier with a high chance of showers and possible rainfall of up to 10mm, making it the wettest day in Adelaide’s seven-day outlook at this stage. Temperatures will hold at around 18 degrees, but it is likely to feel cooler under thicker cloud and patchy rain. Tuesday stays unsettled with another shower or two expected, southwesterly winds returning, and the maximum slipping back to 16 degrees. By Wednesday, conditions ease again to partly cloudy skies with just a slight chance of a shower. It will also be the coldest morning of the week, with the city forecast to drop to 7 degrees before reaching 15 degrees during the day.
Across South Australia, the broader pattern is still active, especially away from the metro area. Rain and possible thunderstorms are expected across parts of the Pastoral and northern Flinders districts through Thursday, with some of the state’s heaviest falls likely in central parts of the Pastoral districts by the end of Sunday. While many districts are only expected to see light totals, isolated thunderstorm activity could bring much heavier bursts, with falls of 20 to 40mm possible in some spots.
The Agricultural Areas, including parts of the South East and Mount Lofty Ranges, can also expect patchy showers at times through the period, particularly around windward coasts and ranges. Fog and frost are both part of the picture on several mornings from Friday to Sunday, especially through the Flinders, Mid North and southeast, which could make for tricky early travel and very cold starts. By Sunday, showers and rain are expected to push into western and central parts of the state, with thunderstorms also possible about the northern and western parts. For coastal communities and boaties near Adelaide, local waters remain relatively manageable with seas below 1 metre through the weekend, though conditions are still worth checking before heading out.
