Morris has two in a minute!

Well, now. Over to you, Collingwood defence.

The Lions are in again, they go in from the opposite side of 50, but the effect is the same.

Logan Morris takes another mark, and he drills the kick.

That’s two in a minute or just over, and the lead is out to 18 points.

Anything Pies can do, Lions can do too

Brisbane took that goal personally, and the visitors answer quick smart.

They loft it high from Darcy Fort to a contest – Logan Morris looks like he’s gone too early, but he half-hovers in the air and takes the grab.

He goes back and kicks.

The umpire looks straight up as if he’s rolling his eyes at a funny quip – he doesn’t have to move!

Great goal from Morris and the Lions extend again.

Pies get the fast start again through Anderson!

It’s fast and fierce in the opening salvos in the second quarter, but the Magpies finally break clear down the near wing.

A bit of a chaos ball bounces towards 50 and the Pies grab it and lofts one to the square – Angus Anderson gets it, and scores his second!

We’re back to a kick the difference. I know we still have the wildcard round next week, but this is shaping like an early start to finals!

Anderson misses chance to go back-to-back

Collingwood are looking dangerous on the break!

They go again and down the wing, it’s a lovely kick inside 50 and again it’s Angus Anderson who takes an uncontested mark.

But he’s pushed the kick wide!

The lead is 12 points, but that could and should have been a goal.

Pies get vital goal from Angus Anderson

That’s the answer from Collingwood!

They chop off a Brisbane attack in D50 and then move the ball quickly down the corridor.

Once again it’s Scott Pendlebury who plays provider, chipping inside 50 for Angus Anderson.

And Anderson kicks it! Much needed for the Pies.

Free against Josh Daicos means Ashcroft goal for the Lions

It’s starting to turn a bit momentum wise.

The Pies had the early ascendancy, but the Lions are on top now.

They go inside 50 and there is a free at a stoppage for Josh Daicos holind Will Ashcroft.

The Lions star slots it, and it’s three goals to one nearing halfway through the opening term.

Zorko hits the post, McKenna kicks a goal for Brisbane

That’s not been a great minute for Collingwood!

The Lions broke and Dayne Zorko kicked from 50 or so, it looked like it was going through but hit the post.

But then the Lions forced a quick turnover 60 out, and Eric Hipwood kicked to Will Ashcroft who handballed over the top to Conor McKenna, who thumped it into the stands from 10m.

The visitors lead by five points.

Another Collingwood miss from Hayes

The Pies are up and about here, and they have energy.

They get the ball in the middle and kick inside 50 to hit Will Hayes. Another set shot … and another miss!

You hope they don’t pay for these later.

Big chance missed for Pies by Tim Membrey

Collingwood are in good form here!

They are going through the corridor and down the wing.

This time they go straight before switching it across 50 to hit Tim Membrey for an easy mark.

But he pulls the kick! Collingwood leads by a point.

This is going at a cracking pace

Both sides are right ON for this one (surprise, surprise!).

The Pies made a break down the left wing there and centred it inside 50 for Jack Crisp, but the one-grab, two-grab, three-grab effort didn’t stick.

Plenty going on at the MCG!

Fri 21 Aug 2026 at 7:43pmFri 21 Aug 2026 at 7:43pm

Magpies reply through Ed Allan!

What is going on here?

We’ve been going less than a minute and both sides have kicked a goal!

The Pies do the breaking this time, and Scott Pendlebury handballs perfectly for Ed Allan to hit it in stride, he runs inside 50 and drills the goal!

Dream start for Brisbane through Logan Morris

That didn’t take long!

The Lions get the first clearance of the game, send it downfield and it lands with Logan Morris in the pocket!

The Brisbane young gun kicks his first and it’s been a bit over 30 seconds!

Two milestone men for the Lions

Battle of the brains trusts?

I reckon I agree with Phillip, Collingwood might well be thoroughly worked over by Brisbane tonight. As for Final(s) I think only the Fagan brains trust can match it with the Longmuire brains trust… delivering on the field against a seemingly invincible team in Freo though is another story… still, if they go into the Final(s) fairly injury free, methinks the Lions can ‘flop over the line’ to go back to back.

Hm, if Bangladesh can beat Australia, then the Lions beat the Dockers.

– Big Ben

Big Ben,

I have to say I reckon you’re forgetting about the Hawks, not just the Dockers.

As for the rest, any AFL team that plays as well in finals as Bangladesh did against Australia will cause havoc.

Having said all that, never write off champions, even if they’re going for three in a row.

Recent results between Collingwood and BrisbaneR4, 2026: Lions by 54 (Gabba)PF, 2025: Lions by 29 (MCG)R21, 2025: Lions by 27 (MCG)R6, 2025: Magpies by 52 (Gabba)R23, 2024: Magpies by 1 (MCG)R3, 2024: Magpies by 20 (Gabba)

It’s been a half-and-half recent matchup between these two clubs. The Lions have won three on the spin, including two at tonight’s venue.

However before that the Pies had won the previous three, including two at the Gabba.

The game that sits just outside these six encounters is, of course, THAT grand final that the Pies won by four points. Looking at these two team’s history at the MCG, it’s actually Brisbane 8, Collingwood 7 dating back to the 2002 grand final.
