Joel Amartey kicks another for Sydney
Two quick ones to Sydney to undo much of the good work from North in this first term. A free kick out of the middle saw the Swans go forward, Larkey kept it alive by hand to Amartey who snapped a lovely goal.
It’s a seven-point game now.

Hayden McLean pulls one back for the Swans
North fans aren’t happy because Wardlaw had Heeney dead to rights holding the ball in the middle of the ground, only for the umpire to inexplicably wave play on.
A few kicks later, McLean was soaring over the pack to take a brilliant mark and kick a big goal. Swans needed it.

Finn O’Sullivan wheels around and snaps another!
Nobody laid a glove on him! A little bit of concern for the Swans with how they defended that one, as O’Sullivan had time to crumb, run a full 360 and then get his kick away without any pressure applied at all.
The Roos are far more lively so far and fully deserve this early 19-point lead.

Zane Duursma extends the North lead
Those lively small forwards for North are causing headaches. Spargo was clever in finding space to centre the ball, Curtis took the crumbs and gave off quickly to Duursma who snapped a neat goal.
The forward pressure from North Melbourne has been terrific today. Haven’t seen much of the Sydney run through the middle of the ground at all.

Logan McDonald steps up for the Swans
They need a big game from someone like McDonald with Curnow out, and it seems he’s up for the challenge. Another strong hit-up lead and a glorious set shot from a tight angle.
He’s got two, the Swans back to within seven points.

Classy finish from Jack Darling!
The checkside from the big fella! You expect the strong contested grab from Darling, he’s been doing that for 15 years. But the clever snap on goal is more than most of his ilk are capable of.
The Roos are in this up to their eyeballs. They’re playing brave footy and reaping the rewards.

Tristan Xerri pokes home to give North the lead
Xerri took Grundy deep forward, and the Swan was a little overzealous in the wrestle as the ball was coming in. Free kick Xerri, goal Xerri.
Decent start for the Roos here.

Cam Zurhaar with a long bomb on goal
Fast start to this one. The Roos were tough in the clinches at half-forward, with Wardlaw extracting the ball from congestion and helping it out to Zurhaar who had pushed forwar from half-back.
Another thumping drop punt from 55 for another goal.

Logan McDonald kicks another for Sydney
Trademark Swans through the middle of the park, beautiful handball work from Sydney. Well, we say handball… the whole move is started by the most blatant throw of the year from Blakey to Heeney. See too much of that these days.
Everything after that was good though. McDonald marks on the lead and goals.

Isaac Heeney with a banger out of the stoppage
Classic Isaac Heeney. Slips into a pocket of space from a ball up just outside 50 and slots it on the run beautifully.
Finn O’Sullivan is running with Heeney, but the North tagger got sucked into the footy and let Heeney free for a crucial second.

Jack Darling kicks the first goal of the afternoon
Had to kick that one, Jack. He had Larkey all alone in the goalsquare when he took the mark but never turned around for a look. The set shot directly in front wasn’t much of a worry though in truth.
LDU forced the turnover and opened the game up in the middle of the ground from North. He made that goal.

Ready to rumble under the roof

The Kangaroos are celebrating their 1996 premiership today, which of course came via a grand final win over Sydney. All the greats are in the house to watch this game, so we’ll see how much that is able to inspire these young Roos.
Ball is in the air and we are away.
