A man has been charged after an alleged hit-and-run in Sydney’s northwest left a pedestrian fighting for life.
Emergency services were called to Ferndale Avenue, near Edinburgh Avenue in Carlingford, after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle at about 12.30pm on Sunday.
Upon arrival, officers found a pedestrian had been struck by a Nissan van, with the driver allegedly fleeing the scene.
The pedestrian, a 34-year-old man, was trapped beneath the vehicle before emergency services worked to free him.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated him at the scene before he was rushed to Westmead Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
Police established a crime scene as officers from the Crash Investigation Unit began investigating the incident.
After searching nearby bushland, police arrested the alleged driver, a 29-year-old man, who allegedly returned a positive roadside breath test.
He was taken to Castle Hill Police Station, where police allege he refused to provide a breath analysis, before being transported under police guard to Hornsby Hospital for mandatory testing.
The man was later returned to Castle Hill Police Station and charged with driving while disqualified, refusing or failing to submit to a breath analysis, and failing to provide particulars to police.
He was refused bail and is due to appear before Parramatta Local Court today, Monday, August 24, 2026.
