A woman is dead after a car crashed into lunchtime diners at a shopping centre in Melbourne’s east.
The woman was sitting outside a restaurant at Westfield Knox, in Wantirna South, about 12.45pm when the car crashed into the building.
Police said the woman died at the scene.
She is yet to be formally identified.
The vehicle’s driver and a passenger were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said they were both in stable conditions.
A second cafe customer was checked by paramedics at the scene.
“Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives will attend to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said.
“Police do not believe the incident was an intentional act.”
In a social media post, the restaurant, Martini and Co, was declared closed until further notice.
“We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding,” it said.
“Please stay safe.”
