A 27-year-old woman has died after a Tesla crashed into a bar at a Westfield in Melbourne’s east.
The woman was on a pedestrian crossing outside Westfield Knox, in Wantirna South, when the grey Tesla crashed into Martini and Co at around 12.45pm on Monday.
A police officer at the scene told the Knox Leader that the car allegedly failed to give way to a pedestrian as she crossed the road and then the vehicle spun out of control.
Bystanders attempted to help the 27-year-old woman but she tragically died at the scene.
The driver, a 51-year-old woman, and passenger of the vehicle were both taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
On its Facebook page, Martini & Co posted: “Due to an accident at Westfield Knox, Martini & Co Knox is temporarily closed until further notice.
“We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Please stay safe and we’ll keep you updated when we can reopen.”
Onlookers posted about the horrific scene shortly after on social media.
“I was there and saw what was going on, very sad… our emergency services do an amazing job in situations like this, I used to be an Ambulance Chaplain … this stuff is hard to face,” Gary Grant wrote.
“It looked pretty awful. When I left there were at least 10 different emergency service vehicles,” Melissa Yelds Lacey wrote.
