Sydney Trains
Sydney commuters have been warned to expect delays during the morning peak, with trains unable to operate between Hornsby and North Sydney.
The Central Coast and Newcastle Line, T1 North Shore and Western Line, and T9 Central via Strathfield lines have been facing significant delays and cancellations as urgent repairs take place at Chatswood Station.
Overhead wiring issues between Chatswood and Artarmon have prompted changes to the train services.
Extra buses are being deployed while Sydney Metro services will run more frequently to help ease the disruption.
Sydney Trains head of rail operations Jas Tumber said commuters had alternative options but should plan ahead.
“A limited shuttle train between Hornsby and Gordon, and then a bus service from Gordon to Chatswood if they do need to come down the shore. But for those travelling towards the city, the best option will be to go by Strathfield, where we will have trains operating from Hornsby to go to the city,” he told 2GB.
The widespread train cancellations have also sparked long wait times for Uber and rideshare services as stranded commuters scramble to find alternative ways into the city.
Commuters at St Leonards and Chatswood stations have reported waiting more than 20 minutes for an Uber during the morning peak, as demand for alternative transport surged across Sydney’s lower north shore.
A standard UberX from Chatswood to Central Station was also priced at almost $60 during Tuesday morning’s peak, about $20 more than the usual fare for the same journey.
Passengers are urged to allow extra travel time and consider alternative routes where possible.
Denham Court
A man has been injured after a group allegedly forced their way into a home in Sydney’s southwest overnight.
Police were called to a property on Indigo Crescent in Denham Court shortly before 11pm on Monday following reports of a home invasion.
Officers were told a group of unknown people had allegedly entered the home and assaulted a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy.
The 20-year-old suffered a leg injury, as well as a severe cut and bruising to his head. He was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital for further treatment.
The 17-year-old suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Two other people inside the home were not injured.
Police have established a crime scene and launched an investigation.
