NRL fans are rallying around Broncos and South Sydney premiership winner Adam Reynolds after the halfback admitted he has played his final game of rugby league. This comes after Braith Anasta claimed things weren’t ‘stacking up’ after Reynolds said he got through training fine, but Michael Maguire and Broncos medical staff were not keen on him running out at Suncorp Stadium.
Broncos fans were hoping to see Reynolds run out one last time at Suncorp Stadium this Thursday when the home side take on the Melbourne Storm. Reynolds injured his calf a few weeks ago in training and had bookmarked this round for his farewell NRL game.

Although Reynolds revealed on Triple M Radio after speaking to Maguire and Broncos staff he wasn’t going to feature this weekend or again this year.
“All NRL careers come to an end and unfortunately mine is today, I won’t be playing this week or next week,” Reynolds told Triple M’s The Rush Hour with Dobbo and Elliot. Despite having played his last game, the reason why he wasn’t running out hasn’t sat well with fans.
Reynolds claimed he got through training and was keen to feature against the Storm. Although it was the Maguire and the medical staff who made the call not to play Reynolds after speaking to the halfback.
“I trained today and I thought there’d be a chance to play one last home game and then hand it over to the rest of the boys to finish off the rest of the season, but that’s not to be,” Reynolds added. “I got through [training], I felt good out there, and then had some conversations with Madge and the medical staff and they were concerned with the limited training I’ve had in the last couple of weeks. They were quite concerned and looking out for the body of mine, which is obviously temperamental.”

Fans divided over Broncos call on Adam Reynolds
Reynolds appeared on NRL 360 last night and Broncos great Gorden Tallis asked the player why he couldn’t play 20 minutes. “That would have been nice, Gordie, but unfortunately they were pretty concerned with the amount of training I’ve done the last couple of weeks…they didn’t want the lasting images of me being carried off the field or what not. I don’t think 20 or 30 minutes defines the career I’ve had.”
While Reynolds put on a brave face, fans were divided. Reporter Brent Read asked: “The medical staff didn’t think he would last the entire game, but why did he have to? Why couldn’t he play 20 minutes?”
Former NSW Blues and Roosters five-eighth Anasta felt something wasn’t right. “It seems like it’s not stacking up for me,” Anasta said. “Is there an issue here?” Fans were divided with many agreeing Reynolds should have been given a short run. Others felt if he was injured it was right for the club to put the team first, which he has done his whole career.
Adam Reynolds’ stellar NRL career
Reynolds played 10 seasons with the South Sydney Rabbitohs having won a premiership in 2014. He then moved to Brisbane in 2022 before taking on the Broncos captaincy. He famously led the Broncos to their first NRL premiership in 19 seasons in 2025.
Reynolds also featured in two State of Origin games for the NSW Blues. He is expected to take up a coaching position with the Broncos next year.
